BAGA & BDAC Openings for Friday, September 6, 2013 Will be Good Ones

I just returned from BAGA to pick up unsold art from the Square Foot Show. While there Carol gave me a tour of the new exhibit to open this Friday (9/6/13).

Wow, I was blown away by what I saw. In the Main Gallery is Michael Dunn (painter, Fargo, ND) and Brad Bachmeier (potter, Fargo, ND). Both have brought their A game to Bismarck. Dunn has moved away from his Morton Solberg styled water colors and has come into his own with oils of sweeping landscapes of prairie and sky. Dunn shows his versatility with large canvases and smaller studies  he has framed under glass.

Bachmeire’s pottery compliments Dunn’s paintings but could easily hold their their own as a solo exhibit. This is the body of work of a potter who has hit his stride. Smaller pots with wood and stone incorporated to larger stand alone pots that a child could hide in.

In the Members Gallery is Nate Welk (Photos, Bismarck). Another feast for the eyes. Images in color and black and white photography. Welk uses closeups of nature and well composed landscapes that are familiar to anyone who lives in ND, SD or MN.

Just up the street from BAGA is BDAC (Bismarck Downtown Artist Coop). They will be having their all members opening of  “Discover Bismarck Mandan” Show. Art inspired by the Bismarck-Mandan area. I did not get a peek of this show but if past shows are any indication of what to expect, this will be a good one.

With two great art openings and craft beer joints popping up like mushrooms in the downtown area why would you not want to be in Bismarck for the evening of September 6, 2013.
